65 years later

65 years ago the death camp at Auschwitz-Birkenau was liberated. The lessons we so unfortunately had to learn still have meaning today.
"This place determined who I am today, aged nearly 90. I still have one mission -- to pass on to the next generation knowledge of what happened here."
-Camp survivor, August Kowalczyk

Formatting

Evidently, I'm having some formatting trouble. Remember when I didn't have a blog and didn't stress out about these things?

Anti-Prorogation Rally

I have a lot of opinions on prorogation. In general, I'm not supportive of the concept - whoever is in government. Of course, there is a time and place when it's appropriate, but this instance, in my opinion, wasn't. So I decided to go to the "rally" on Parliament Hill to try to get a few good photos and document the event.

A few things - I'm not the biggest fan of rallies. I find them to be full of too many angry people, angry at anything, and looking for a soapbox to stand on. This one was not short on that, with it's 9/11 deniers, communists, etc. Even some of the speakers went on rants really shouldn't have been given the mic. It was also meant to be non-partisan, but there was a heavy obviously NDP presence, which took away from the event.

Knowing all this would be the case, I went anyway, but left early, missing the various leaders who came out to speak.

Not sure about how I feel about all of the signs/dolls/speeches, but a few were good. Best one I didn't get a picture of was a kid, whose sign said: "How come I can't prorogue going to school?"

Again, enough with the words. Click on the picture for the rest of the photos, on my Flickr.

First real post

After taking a trip with an DSLR a year and a half ago, and buying a camera just over a year ago, I've decided I'm finally comfortable enough to start sharing photos on a regular basis. Facebook just doesn't cut it anymore.

More than anything, photography is a hobby, and I'm not looking to do anything with this but improve my photo taking capabilities, and so I look forward to your feedback.

Plus, I've had this Blogger account since 2004, and 4zim was taken at Wordpress. And the Sartorialist uses Blogger, so it can't be that bad. (And no, I didn't copy his blog style, this is just the way I had set mine up back in the day.)

Enough with the cheesy text. This is meant to be a photo blog.
